A child’s heart is a muscle about the size of his or her fist. The heart works like a pump and beats 100,000 times a day.
Congenital heart defect (CHD), also known as a congenital heart anomaly or congenital heart disease, is a problem in the structure of the heart that is present at birth.
Congenital Cardiac (Children Heart) Surgery
Congenital heart defects change the normal flow of blood through the heart. There are many types of congenital heart defects. They range from simple defects with no symptoms to complex defects with severe, life-threatening symptoms.Congenital heart defects are the most common type of birth defect.
Many of these defects are simple conditions. They need no treatment or are easily fixed. The treatment a child receives depends on the type and severity of his or her heart defect. Other factors include child’s age, size, and general health. Some of the common CHD are Atrial septal defect (ASD),Patent Ductus arteriosis (PDA),Ventricular septal defect (VSD),Hypoplastic heart syndrome,Transposition of the great vessels and Tetrology of Fallot . Mostly they require surgical correction. It is very important to address it at appropriate age to have the best outcome.
